Photo Upload Information
There are two ways to create a digital photo that can be uploaded to Terahub. The easiest way is to use a digital camera to take the photo and download it directly to your computer. If you don't have access to a digital camera, you can take pictures with a traditional film camera and scan them into a digital format. The directions below assume you are using a digital camera. If you have your own scanner, the directions below still apply. You simply replace the words "digital camera" with "scanner".

If you don't have a digital camera or a scanner, you can still get a digital photo. You will need to take your traditional film pictures to a copy center or public library that has a scanner. You or the copy center person will scan the images and save them to a disk. You can then put the disk in your computer and upload the photos to Terahub. You should follow the guidelines below when saving the photos to your disk, that is, the photo dimensions should be 640 x 480 pixels, 72 dpi resolution, "Medium" image quality, and file size less than 100K.

Follow these steps.
  1. Take a picture Try to get as close up a photo as you can with as little background as possible.

  2. Download the picture to your computer Use the software that came with your camera to save the photo to your computer. If you have an option to choose the file format during download, choose JPEG, JPG, or GIF. If the photo is downloaded in some other format, you will need to use the "Save As" feature of your software to save a copy of your photo in JPEG, JPG, or GIF format. Since there are numerous versions of camera software out there, you will need to refer to your camera documentation for specific instructions. Make sure you remember where you save your file and what you name it. You'll need that information later.

  3. Check the sizes There are two types of sizes to consider, file size and photo dimensions (width x height). File size is important because the larger the photo file is, the longer it will take to display in a browser. Large file sizes can be annoying to potential buyers because they have to wait a long time for your photos to display. Anything under 100K is a good file size.

File size is determined by many factors, one of which is the photo dimensions. On a computer, photo dimensions are measured in pixels. Terahub limits your photos to no more than 640 x 480 pixels. Terahub will automatically resize any photo that you upload to 640 x 480 if it is larger than that. It will leave smaller photos at their original size. You can use the photo software that came with your digital camera to modify the photo to achieve a file size of 100K and a dimension of 640 x 480 or less.

The other major ways to reduce image file size besides reducing the dimensions are to adjust the resolution and image quality. If your software allows you to adjust either or both of these values, the appropriate settings are a resolution of 72 dpi, and an image quality of "Medium".

  4. Thumbnails Thumbnails are smaller versions of your photos that will be displayed on the search pages and other locations, if the ad type that you purchased includes them. Thumbnails are automatically generated by Terahub when your photos are uploaded. You don't need to do anything special for them.

  5. Upload the photo Click on the "My Account" menu item, then the "Manage Ads" option. Select the ad that you want to attach the photo(s) to by clicking on the "Ad Id" for the ad that you want. You will then see the "Ad Detail" page. Click on the "Modify Photos" button. If you have previously uploaded photos for this ad, the thumbnails will be shown on the right. You can replace any photos that are already there, or delete them entirely.

To add new photos or replace existing ones, click the "Browse" button next to the "Photo File Name" field. Browse to the location on your computer where the photo file is located and select the photo that you want to include. Use a separate "Photo File Name" field to browse to each photo that you want to include. You can enter an optional photo description for each photo if you like. The description will show up beneath the photo whenever it is displayed to buyers.

When you have selected all of the photos you want to upload, click the "Submit" button. After you click "Submit" WAIT FOR THE SUCCESS PAGE to appear. The time it takes for the "Success" page to appear depends on the number of photos you are uploading, their file sizes, and the speed of your internet connection. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes depending on these factors.
